Will automatic center happen in an actual Pokemon game?

For those of you who don’t know what automatic center is:

it happens in triple battles; when your the opponent’s Pokemon are non-adjacent to each other and are the only 2 Pokemon left on the field, they both get automatically moved to the center spots in their respective sides.

It happened to me in Pokemon Showdown.

When there are only two Pokémon left on the field and they are non-adjacent to each other, both Pokémon will automatically be shifted to the center of the field.

Basically, knock out 2 of their Pokemon on the opposite side of the Pokemon you want remaining. Then make your Pokemon faint. The two Pokemon will automatically be shifted to the center.
