Why can’t I trade between my ORAS and XY games?

I have a machoke I want to evolve in Alpha Sapphire, but I need to trade it in order for it to evolve into a machamp. I have one 2ds and one 3ds xl, but for some reason the PSS isn’t working. Both of my profiles are showing up as passerby, but are just darkened and won’t let me click the trade, battle, or o power. Can someone help me figure out why it’s grayed out? I have pictures to show too below/attached of the ORAS and XY Ds(s)

Edit: never mind, it turns out to trade with a passerby ds I just had to friend them

Since OP isn’t posting his solution as an answer, I will post it. In order to trade with a passerby on DS, you have to friend them first. Hope this helps anybody who has this problem!
