What triggers the animation before Mega Evolving a Pokemon?

Sometimes when I Mega Evolve one of my Pokemon, there is a little animation of me touching the mega ring and holding it in the air. At other times, it just shows the Pokemon Mega Evolving. Why is this?

This happens a couple of timesWhen you start playing the game the first time you mega will do this animation this will not happen again until you either return to the home menu and quit the game or soft reset

I believe that whenever you mega a different Pokemon it happens as well.

During important battles like the Champion will also affect this animation.

This in fact, is random. Sometimes you see the animation, sometimes you don’t. That’s all it is.
