What happens if you try and transfer a high level Pokemon before having all the badges?

Just wondering what happens with the ridiculous new level cap on catches and the advent of Pokémon home. The level cap only prevents you from “catching” Pokémon at a higher level right? Not transferring them? … Also, they are technically my Pokémon but they come from another game so how will that effect them obeying me? …Just trying to figure out if I should pay to transfer some of my Pokémon from the older games now or if I should wait till post-game. Thanks.

I transferred my level 70 Mewtwo To Sword and Shield after getting the 1st Badge. It functioned like expected, not obeying me. That being said, it still worked well against the 2nd and 3rd gym.

And yes, it’s worth paying to transfer Pokémon over from the 3DS.
