What exactly is Sigilyph?
Jul. 20, 2021Sigilyph has always appeared to me as a weird shape. With plenty of spikes and weird appendages.
Today, while playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate, I noticed that thelogo for the Dragon Quest serieslooked practically identical to Sigilyph.
So whatexactlyis this creature?

Sigilyph appears to have been inspired by the Nazca Lines, specifically the avian figures, and kachina dolls. Like Sigilyph, the Nazca Lines are found in a desert. It also resembles a wind chime.
It’s kind of a combination of Nazca Lines and kachina dolls. Looking at Nazca lines on Wikipedia, you can see the similarities between Sigilyph and, for example,the condor. However, Bulbapedia fails to mention that Sigilyph bears averyheavy resemblance tothe hummingbird, its body shape matching it nearly identically.
