What does 'soft reset' mean?

Sorry about the question but how does Soft Reset work? Is it like reset all your game and progress and starting from ground zero? Or I “keep” something from my game (like keeping Pokémon I caught earlier) and reset, for example, just the storie?Sorry for the long question but I need to know this and sorry about being noob (a long time without playing Pokémon). Thx everyone.

A soft reset is when you restart your game to the title screen by pressing a button combination on your console. This will return you to your last save point. If you completely turn off the console and boot it up again, it’s called a hard reset. You can see the button combinations for soft resetshere.
