Most reliable Psychic type for a GSC playthrough?
Jul. 16, 2024Ik I’ve asked this before for HGSS, but my save file for that game got deleted so now I’m playing Crystal.
Anyways I need a reliable Psychic type that can be good support and I’m not sure which to use due to Gen 2 and Gen 4 having big differences. Also, I can’t trade so Alakazam is out of the way.

Kadabra is one of the best Psychic types even without evolving into Alakazam: it can be caught early, boasts high Speed and Special Attack, and gets Psybeam and Psychic via level-up in a generation where most Pokémon are starved for good movepools. It also gets the elemental punches from Goldenrod, giving it near-unparalleled coverage and positive matchups into most boss battles.
It’s harder to justifynotusing Kadabra if you’re looking for a Psychic type. There is nothing that comes close to its sheer effectiveness in these games.
