Is it possible to trade from any gen to another?

I want to know if in some series of trades I could get a Gen 1 Pokemon to Gen 6? It does not have to be direct, but is there a way?

Sorry, this is not possible.

Here is why:

Gen 1can trade toGen 2

Gen 2can trade toGen 1

Gen 2cannot trade with anything else.

So unfortunately any Gen 1 Pokémon can only get to Gen 2, no further.
