In Pokemon Gold/Silver, can you trade Pokemon between games if Red/Blue and Gold/Silver are on the same 3DS?

I really want to know this so my journey in Johto/Kanto could be accompanied by my good friends from the original Kanto games. I hope someone can give me an answer, whether it is yes or no, I want to know so before I buy Gold or Silver on my 3DS. Should I get strong Pokemon ready from my copy of Red, Blue, or Yellow? I would appreciate an answer soon, so I can do this before I buy the game. Also, this my first time playing Gold or Silver, so I know nothing about trading between these games either.

Nope, from what I know. You need to have two 3DS' to use the time capsule feature to trade with yourself. I haven’t heard if you can do it without two 3DS
